Have you started a YouTube channel after having a great idea and an original concept? Maybe you're using it for your business but now you're wondering how to get YouTube subscribers. Having 0 subscribers on YouTube can feel very lonely. Now YT is so full of content it can be harder for people to find your channel and subscribe. In 2007, it was a lot easier to get noticed! I want to tell you exactly how I got subscribers on my YouTube channel so hopefully you can take some ideas away and implement them. 1. Have Killer Channel Art If you want to stand out and make an impact when people find your channel, you need to have striking channel art. This is the banner that runs across the top of your channel. You are very limited in how you customise your channel so you must use this space wisely. Make sure you use your logo if you have one and add a caption that's short but sweet. Depending on your niche, using images that reflect what people can expect from your channel. If you're not arty and are not sure how to make killer channel art, consider using a free online software to make the process easier. Websites like Canva.com make the whole experience straight forward and I have personally been very pleased with using them. You can find the exact size you need to use for your channel art in their large selection of templates. 2. Make A Great Logo Your logo is the only other area you can customise with an image. You can again use free online software or if your channel is your personal channel, it's a good idea to use your face as your account image. People generally love knowing who they are watching and feel more connected when the channel owner puts themselves out their a bit more. 3. Get The Right Equipment When you're just starting out on YouTube you don't need to worry about what equipment you use. I have found that using my IPhone/Samsung phone with the right lighting is adequate enough for most of my videos. Once your channel starts earning a few dollars here and there, you can start to invest in some proper equipment. You'll notice that it makes a huge difference. The most important thing you need to remember is video quality though. Everything you post must be in HD. I think these days people expect to see HD and nothing less with the evolution of cameras so they become very turned off when they see anything less! Having a decent camera makes your videos look professional and sharp. You also need to take into account lighting. If your videos are too dark then you'll need to invest in some lighting you can mount in front of you. 4. Get Uploading Probably the most important part...uploading. So many people get caught up with what to post and if they are making the right videos. You really just have to start posting. Of course it's preferable to have a theme, but you need to start getting videos out there. If you make a great looking channel but you have no videos, no one is going to find you. Every video you post is another doorway to someone discovering you. Every view is a chance to get another subscriber on your channel. Once you have pumped a few videos out, then you can start focusing on quality over quantity. You must also make sure that you are posting consistently. The more you post, the more YouTube will start ranking your videos and will take more notice of your channel. This is how to get YouTube subscribers fast. This is why vloggers do so well. They kind of have a win-win thing going on. Vloggers post videos of their lives showing their audience what they do each day. In this day and age it's become a very popular thing to do and is earning some content creators big money. Most vloggers post a video once a day meaning they are adding fresh content all the time. This is what YouTube likes and this is a great way to get YouTube subscribers quickly. When people can see you're posting videos on a regular basis they are more likely to subscribe to you. A channel that has gaps of 2-3 weeks and maybe even longer is not attractive to subscribe to. You don't have to make your videos long. In fact it has been shown that YouTube prefers 10 minute videos to anything longer. YouTube gives videos in this minute range more exposure. The more you post, the more exposure you get. If you consistently post videos, you'll stand a fair chance in being 'highlighted' by YouTube. In early 2017, YouTube turned it's attention towards smaller YouTubers. In the past, YouTube would give larger channels more exposure by putting their videos on the front page of their website. So, now is a really good time to be a small YouTuber as the company starts to turn towards you. In reality, most of your videos (on a new channel) will gain little to 100 views In their first month or so. However, in my experience you only need one of your videos to be posted at the right time to be picked up and gain some traction. This is a great way to start getting YouTube subscribers fast. Which brings us nicely onto my next point... 5. Make Videos People Are Searching For One of the fastest ways to get YouTube subscribers which I've experienced first hand, is, to make videos you KNOW people are searching for. The thing with YouTube is (and Google) people don't just randomly stumble across your videos anymore. You have to be aware of what people are searching for and what is currently popular and trending. Let's use an example which I think highlights this well; Let's say you have created a new channel that reviews films. The new Batman Lego movie is coming out in cinemas soo or it has just come out. Naturally, people will be searching for reviews to see if it's worth going. This is your chance to make sure you watch the movie and get a review video up quickly so you can start building up some views fast. If you're one of the first to review it on YouTube, you'll be at the top spot when people start searching for 'lego batman film review'. So, you really need to be aware of what's going on at the time and what people are searching for. Luckily, their is a tool for this if you get stuck... The keyword planner tool is a free piece of software provided by Google. You need to sign up for a free Adwords account and then you can begin to use the keyword planner. The planner effectively shows you how many times a month a search term is searched globally and the competition for those search terms. This is a really useful tool which you can use to build great titles around. 6. Content Is King Really when it comes down to it, make sure your video is great. If your content in your video is great , you'll get subscribers to your channel easily. There are several different approaches you can take to your content they do really well; 1. Everyday life/lifestyle 2. Humour 3. Tutorial We've talked about vloggers or 'video loggers' who make videos of their daily lives. Although this concept may seem strange to older generations, it's probably the most profitable way and easiest way to get YouTube subs. People enjoy getting to know other people and feeling like they are a part of their lives. When you lay it all out in your videos, people get the chance to really connect with you and they become heavily invested in your life and channel. Similarly to this this, humour of course does really well. Since the birth of YouTube, prank videos has run riot on the website. People just like being made laugh. YouTube king PewDiePie has used numbers 2 and 3 to build the most subscribed to channel on YouTube. His 'let's plays' videos where he plays video games whilst commentating fall under the tutorial concept and his funny personality add to the entertainment which is a recipe for great success on YouTube. 7. Have Searchable Titles and Make Them Interesting So now you know what people are searching for, it's time to use these search terms for your titles. Try and put a twist on them though..It's very true that 'clickbait' type of titles work really well on YouTube and call it annoying but it's something all the big 'Tubers do. The important thing to remember is to keep it relevant. Don't give your video a ridiculous title and then not deliver on content. The content has to reflect the title and vise versa. 8. Create Custom Thumbnails When you are uploading your video you're given 3 points in your video to use as your thumbnail. The thumbnail is the image preview people see before they watch your video. This is just as important as using a great title. So make sure it's good. It's important to remember that you can't use a custom thumbnail image straight away on a new channel. So you'll have to wait a few days and then come back to your editing page of your video. The custom thumbnail option is basically an image that you can upload. The size of a thumbnail image needs to be at least 1280x720. Of course, you can use a website like Canva.com to add your own picture to their preset template and add things like text and effects. A good thumbnail is eye catching and relevant to the video. A good idea is to use large text on your video which reflects your videos title too. 9. Ask For Subscribers You might feel uncomfortable at first but the best way to get subscribers on YouTube is to ask for them. Don't be shy, you're making great videos for free so why not just ask for subs. You can do this by writing it in your description box, on you intro and in your video when you're wrapping it up. In my experience people respond well and do subscribe when their prompted. A lot of people will search for your username if they wan to watch your videos instead of subscribing. After you've got your subscriber you need to make it easier for them to come back to you. People subscribe to lots of YouTubers so you have to make sure people are aware when you are posting a new video. When YouTube made it's debut, you were notified easily about your favourite creators videos. These days, it's harder than that. Recently, at the beginning of 2017 YouTube was called out by many YouTubers who were upset their subscribers were not being notified of their new videos. It appeared that YouTube made a change where as you now need to subscribe and push a channels notification bell. If you don't push the bell, you won't get an email telling you about a new video. So ask people to subscriber and press your notification bell so they can keep up to date with you. 10. 'Buy Some' Well, I don't mean exactly that. There are ways you can spend your money to get YouTube subscribers that will benefit you. Buying subs from websites that deliver them to your account is not a good idea. These 'subs' are just inactive bots that never like, comment or share your videos so don't be tempted to buy fake subscribers. Even when they say '100% real!' they are not... Instead find larger YouTubers in your niche that have an audience like yours. You gotta build a relationship with these people, and I don't mean take them out on a date. I'm talking business. Once you've established yourself with them consider asking them to mention your channel to their audience for a fee. You can ask them like this; 1. Would it be possible to get a shoutout for a fee? 2. I would be happy to hear how much you charge It's likely that they've never done a shoutout before so they probably won't know how much to charge. The more subs they have, the more they should charge though. Getting a shoutout can really boost your channels growth like nothing else. So, if you've got some money you can afford to spend on it, why not go for it! 11. Don't Sub For Sub PLEASE... Sub for sub...no no no. You see it all the time, 'please sub to me, I'll sub back.' I can't believe people are still doing this. I'll admit, it's mostly kids but still. Asking for sub swaps is a pointless practise and goes against the whole point of subscribing to a channel. When you swap subs you are inflating your subscriber count just to make it look like you've got subscribers. However, those 'subscribers' are not interested in your videos they're only there because you subbed to them. You NEED people to subscribe to your channel that want to because they enjoy your videos. They are the people who are true subscribers and they are there because they want to be. The Formula For how to Get More YouTube Subscribers fast Consistency + Great content + Patience + Great Titles + Eye catching Thumbnails + Theme = Subscribers YouTube is a marathon not a sprint. If you want long lasting subscribers that love what you do then you just have to be patient! It's not going to happen over night but, as the months go on you'll begin getting some traction as people talk about and share your videos.
Keep being persistent, patient and have fun. Do all these things and you'll be on your way to your first 100 subscribers that are really invested in what you do.
